How Room Colors Affect Your Mood

room color 3

It’s a well-known fact that certain colors made us feel certain things. Red and yellow are known to make a person feel hungry. That is why McDonald’s, Wendy’s, In-and-Out Burger, Carl’s Jr., Red Robin, Pizza Hut, Sonic, Burger King, and many other fast food restaurants use those colors in their logos. Red clothing supposedly makes woman look more attractive to the male eye. Blue is said to be a calming color, while purple is often associated with wealthy and elegance.

Light colors make the space seem larger and more open, while darker colors make the room more defined and intimate.

Of course, everyone is different and many of these things change based on personal tastes and interests, but generally speaking, here’s what some basic color will make you feel when they dominate a room:

Red Room

Red is an intense color. A red room will raise your energy and pump adrenaline through your body.  The color has been scientifically proven to raise a person’s heartrate and blood pressure. Red is perfect to be used in a living room or game room. Somewhere that you want people to have fun and get excited. But be careful with over use…too much red can make a person feel threatened.

Blue Room

Blue is naturally calming. It relaxes the body and makes you feel one with yourself and the natural world around you. In contrast to red, blue has been proven to lower heart rate and blood pressure. Thus, it is good for use in a bedroom or bathroom, where you would want to feel the most relaxed.

Blue is also the best color for concentration. It’s ideal for a work room or office, because it will put you in the mindset to get stuff done.

Yellow Room

Yellow is often associated with happiness. It increases metabolism, brightens the room, and gives you energy. It is often used in kitchens and bedrooms to make the occupant feel more happy and optimistic. You must also be careful with shade and hue, however, as a more mustard-y yellow make a person feel anxious, and a dirty yellow can make a person feel sick. Pastel yellows or bright sunshine-y yellows are the best.

Black and White Room

White makes things look refreshing and clean.  Which is why choosing a white baseboard heater cover will make your home feel spick-and-span. The color makes a room seem larger. Black is used to make the home look elegant and bold. The combination of the two, give a clean, sophisticated look to any room. It is often used in parlors or living rooms, or anywhere you want your guests to think of you as classy.

Too much black, however is often associated with death and mourning. If you don’t want to be accused of being gothic, then try not to use too much black, but only enough to accent the room and give it the elegance you desire.

Brown Room

Brown often evokes a feeling of naturalness. It can be very calming. The color can either remind the occupant of dirt, and bark, and all things nature, giving off a feeling of stability, or of chocolate, giving a feeling of contentment. Brown work well in living and bed rooms, as they make you feel right at home. To learn more about what a color says about your mood, this article will tell you more.
